The mystery of Summer Heat
and what I'm working on now (with teasers)
Good morning, afternoon, evening or night!
As you may recall, in December of 2015 I uploaded this video containing a few snippets of music suitable for intros, ten seconds in length each. (By the way, is anyone interested in an updated version of this? Let me know if you are.) The last of those files was presented with three question marks, and in the description it was referred to as Summer Heat. Apart from that, there was no mention of it anywhere on my channel, but once you put something on the Internet, someone will remember it. I honestly regret teasing that track, not because I've been asked about it a lot since (basically whenever I announce a new piece), but because I have to say no to those questions each and every time, as I've simply lost track of the plans I had for it.
Summer Heat was supposed to be a track with vocals. I contacted the singer Julia Angelo who I'd previously worked with on 2084, and she agreed to work on the song with me. Unfortunately though, between when the project started and when she would have recorded her lines, other things got in her way and she didn't have the time to work on it anymore. Afterwards I had several other tracks started that I finished and released, at which point it was kind of ... lost. I need to boot up the computer I used at the time and search for the project file, which I will do, and then at least release the instrumental version.
I am working on another track with vocals though! It's progressing fairly slowly, as spare time projects like these usually do, but I'll be a bit more transparent from now on and update you on how it goes. If you're curious as to what it's going to sound like, it will be the red track (which was voted 2nd place) from my poll in April, which caused the release of Stardust shortly afterwards.
Speaking of the poll, I also did some work on the green track, which wasn't as popular, but definitely poses a bigger challenge as it is unknown territory to me. I slowed it down and added a few "chill"-ish elements to it. I haven't worked on it in a few weeks though, and I'm not sure where I will be going with it, but I'll definitely release it at some point. I started counting up project filenames beginning with From A Different Time as 01-16 and have kept the naming since (Far Away is 18-16). This is a short snippet from the current state of the project with the title 07-16_glitch_2:
I have also started a new project with the filename 20-16 (which looks kind of neat considering it's the year 2016), which is going to be a Tropical House track. I will be experimenting with a few out-of-place elements, to make it less generic and a bit controversial perhaps. Have a listen here:
Lastly, I have started working on a game for the website. You will get one of my tracks to listen to and then get a choice of four titles. There will be highscores later on, but I have just finished the basic system of random titles, checking against the database and an anticheat script that prevents you from grabbing the filename from the audio player. Not to say that anyone would cheat, but you never know.
Thank you very much for taking your time reading this. Let me know what you think of the audio snippets in the comments below! Have a great day :)
